When I joined BT we were the first in-house design team there so we faced some real challenges with integrating into the business. We overcame these challenges by being a driven and quality driven team.

I worked on various products and projects while I was at BT , with the core highlights being;

• Lead visual designer; BT Broadband, BT Call Protect, BT Future Voice
• Visual designer on BT Style-guide and AEM migration project
• Set up BT Graduate Scheme
• Encouraged utilisation of Sketch, Zeplin & Principle

You can get a flavour for some of this work below.

Discovery

We ran a full discovery for BT Ultrafast to get an understanding of the users needs and business requirements. Here is a graphic that shows the process in which we work. As a lead visual designer I will take on the responsibility of working on the Visual Design audit, Competitor Analysis (from a visual point of view) and user research. Then once all findings have been presented back to GMs and Directors the project will move into refinement stage where we work in sprints.

Pre-Sales journey -

High Level Scamps

Working alongside two other UX designers, we translated the finding of our 6 week discovery and user interviews into some high level concepts during our ideation phase.

We then brainstormed these ideas with the rest of the working group in a series of workshops to come up with some user flows and journeys that we thought we serve the user groups as best possible.

We had arranged some user testing sessions with a local research company in Old Street, so the next thing to do was take our concepts and user flows and turn them into a high-level journey map, which we would then turn into wireframes for usability testing.

These high level scamps were produced to demonstrate to General Managers and directors the thought processes of how a new Pre-Sales journey could work. The scamps were received well during the presentations.

One the journey had been signed off by our stakeholders we moved the designs forward to undergo testing in our next user research sprint.

User testing

BT Ultrafast is a new type of broadband that will change the face of the broadband market in the UK forever. User research is an invaluable part of our work and to accurately test the proposition we asked 10 test users to complete a variaty of tasks. Below is a basic prototype created to see if the users understood the proposition and what the benefits were.

Key project inputs:

  • Running user testing session at Spotless with UX designer

  • Creation of high-level scamps for testing

  • Observing test users behaviours

  • Generating ideas for Information Architecure to improve user experience

BT Online Master Guidelines

Defining the BT brand across digital by creating the Online Master Guidelines that integrate best in class UI and UX design principles. The Online Master Guidelines contain all of the components, patterns and fibres that construct BT's digital landscape.

Key project input:

  • Working with Visual Design team to define component list

  • Planning user research sessions with UX team to define best in class components and patterns

  • Aligning OMG with brand team and branding agency to ensure OMG is inline with new brand

BT Vision project

The BT brand is changing, I was tasked with producing some conceptual designs for how BT's digital landscape could look. These designs include full width video background, 3D scope integration and other interactive elements.

Key Project input:

  • Concepting ideas for use of new brand

  • Presenting concepts back to GMs and Directors

BT Call Protect

BT Call Protect

BT Call Protect is a product that BT customers can add on to the telephone and broadband package. The purpose of the tool is to allow the user to manage and block calls that come into their home telephone number.

The technology used an API to link the numbers that call the landline to a backend database which we designed the UI for. Allow the user to control who could call them.
